MegaCon in Orlando has become one of the country's fastest growing comic book conventions. No longer affiliated with the now defunct Cross-Gen Comics company, MegaCon attracts a wide range of comic book pros and fans, as well as plenty of media stars, anime devotees, and more. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| OK, I'll admit it... February winters are a pretty good reason to get away to Florida, and while the weather of Orlando was a little rainy and cool, the chance to meet some of my favorite creators for the first time and catch up with some "I knew when" was equally compelling. I knew I'd enjoy chatting with George Perez who I know I would love to have a whole show on. I got to see the work of some up-and-comers, including those getting their feet wet online, and while their shots aren't included on this page, they do get a chance to show their stuff off in this episode.
And where else would you get the quote "The average age of the reader of Parade Magazine is dead?" And count how many times a creator says something along the lines of "I'm working on a project I can't give you any details on... look for it this fall." Most, but not all, of the guests have links to their site, available from this site. And yes, I did try to get to talk to Dick Giordano, one of the classic artists of all time... but the crowd around him was impossible to plow through. Next time... The folks at MegaCon knew how to put on a Con, full of activity, displays, original art, and many many exuberant fans. |
